1. IELTS Academic Listening
The Listening test measures your ability to understand spoken English in everyday, educational and academic contexts.

What Will You Read?
Reading passages may come from books, academic journals, magazines, newspapers and online resources. The texts are written for a non-specialist audience and may use different styles, including descriptive, narrative and argumentative writing.
Texts may also contain graphs, charts, diagrams or illustrations. Where technical vocabulary is necessary, a simple explanation may be provided.

3. IELTS Academic Writing
The Academic Writing test assesses your ability to present ideas clearly, logically and accurately in written English.

Task 1 – Academic Writing
You will be asked to describe, summarise or explain visual information. This may include:
- Graphs

- Minimum: 150 words
- Recommended time: Approximately 20 minutes
Task 2 – Essay
You will be given a point of view, argument or problem and asked to write an essay discussing the topic.
- Minimum: 250 words

Your answer should be written as connected text using full sentences, rather than notes or bullet points.

4. IELTS Academic Speaking
The IELTS Speaking test is a face-to-face interview with a trained IELTS examiner and is recorded for quality assurance.

Part 1 – Introduction and Interview
The examiner asks general questions about familiar subjects such as your home, family, work, studies and interests.
Part 2 – Long Turn
You receive a task card with a topic. You have one minute to prepare and then speak for up to two minutes. The examiner may ask one or two questions after your talk.
Part 3 – Discussion
You discuss issues related to the topic in Part 2. This part allows you to explain opinions, analyse ideas and discuss issues in greater depth.

Your Speaking performance is assessed on:

IELTS Academic Scoring
Each IELTS section is scored separately. You receive a band score for Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, together with an overall band score.
IELTS uses a 9-band scale, with scores reported in whole or half bands, such as 6.0, 6.5 or 7.0.
